Firestorm: Red Thunder

Continuing our drive toward Nuremburg, we are ordered to attack Hohenstadt. Out tank forces are down to just over 50% so a request has gone to regiment for additional tank forces.

For the attack our forces are as follows:
HQ-1 T-72
Tank Company- 10 T-72
Tank Company- 4 T-72
Motorized Infantry Company- 12 BMP-1
2S1 artillery 3 Carnation
2S1 artillery 3 Carnation

In addition regiment has agreed to send 6 additional T-72 tanks if needed.

Turn 1:

The 4 T-72s move as rapidly as possible toward the town as the main tank company moves up and the BMPs move along as well. The Germans open up with 2 Leopard platoons and take out 3 T-72 tanks. They also spring an ambush, but the ambush fails to hit.

Turn 2:

The T-72 main company manages only 1 kill, and the infantry dismount and take out 1 of the Jag2 ambush vehicles. The soviet artillery drops smoke to cover the tanks. The Germans manage to engage the T-72s and knock out 6 of them!!!! The remaining 2 Jag2 vehicles move as fast as possible as the German artillery drops smoke to cover their withdrawal.

Turn 3
:
The call goes to Regiment for the additional tanks. The remaining T-72s knock out another Leopard 2 and also manage to catch up with the 2 Jag2s and knock them out. The infantry remount and move as quickly as possible. Soviet artillery manages to destroy another Leopard 2!!! The German Infantry fires their Milan missiles and eliminate another T-72. The remaining Leopard 2s begin to withdraw.

Turn 4

The 6 T-72s begin to arrive, The infantry company dismounts and attack the German infantry taking out a Milan team. Artillery fails to range in or hit anything. Another Leopard 2 is eliminated. The German Milan teams hit and eliminate a BMP-1. A lone Leopard 2 counterattacks and takes out 2 BMP1s and 1 RPG-7 team.

Turn 5

The reserve T-72s take out the counterattacking Leopard 2, and the infantry take a building and take out a West German infantry team. The Germans concede and withdraw.

The battle was played as a fighting withdrawal with some additional rules.
