Baron strikes at Amsterdam

Kommendant Barons Volksarmee in its pride!

*** PREGAME TALK ***

This is a game where I fight my friend Max whom plays United States.
We pressed in a game after work to try out the "new" Amsterdam mission.
We worked around with a list for my friend and ended up playing 100 pts each.
We are both struggeling to finish all the painted models. My helicopters are slowly coming along, shortly followed by the infantry.

But let's see if Kommendant Baron can win this fight against his old adversary Max 400!
Regarding the colours in the report:

Yellow star = Dead
Yellow frame and red center = Bailed

Deployment line
Warsaw Pact movement, an aggresive push forward towards the Americans
The American forces destroys four T-72M's and two BMP-2's and bailing one. But now it's my turn thought the Kommendant. Beginning sending orders, from the woods he saw how his units began shifting to obey his commands.
The combined fire from the T-72M's, BMP-2 and the Artillery decimated several of the Abrams and sent several crew members fleeing, only to be killed by the artillery bombardment once outside, leaving them immobile. The left flank reported of burning enemy transports. Infantry still to be located.
Hiding your transports won't work, American Commander thought Baron. He listened to reports where the T-72M were taking casulties from the Abrams. He looked at the timer and thought, only a few more minutes and the Mi-24 Hind will arrive. I need to destroy their air support. Now where is it....
The Kommendant was notified about the BMP-1 deploying infantry on the left flank attempting to claim the objective while their transports tried to pin the infantry on the other side. The T-72M had lost one tank due to cowardice, something that would have to be dealt with later, however, the others stood their ground keeping the enemy occupied. Some Shilkas had arrived and they where sent up the left flank to bolster against the infantry. A worrying piece of information informed him that the enemy had deployed a second unit of mechanized infantry on the left flank. This could be problematic...
The com-link with the infantry on the left flank went dead. The last transmission had been that they where being assaulted by the Americans. They had killed a few before going into melee combat. That was two minutes ago. A confirmation from their transports told him that they where all gone. Left flank needed more support. But what to send. What to send....
American Abrams trying to destroy the last two tanks that just won't give in. Commendations to everyone!
The US infantry prepare for the assault by repositioning their units accordingly.
The Shilkas together with the BMP-1 engaged the American infantry. The BMP-2 moved in for the kill on the enemy anti-air, but only managed to scare them out of their vehicles. The BMP-1 Reccon element completed a Blitz move and destroyed a transport tank with their turred mounted rockets. The T-72M failed to remount and no hits on the Abrams. Kommendant Baron felt comfortable with these odds and moved forward with his Command tank parking between the Recce BMP-1 and the BMP-2 transports between two small dwellings. Oh, and two BMP-2 had gotten stuck in the mud.
More reserves from the Americans arrived and went straight for the BMP-2's. The enemies anti-air cycled their mini-gun and began to spraying several BMP-2's. Two transports crew bailed and hid outside when some of the rounds had penetrated and gone out the other side. Reports coming from the T-72M, where grim. One tank left, however, they had mechanical problems. The BMP-1's got hit with several dragon missiles from the American infantry suddenly becoming brave and pushing my left flank.
Kommendant Baron let out a smile hearing that the left flank had done horrendous damage to the Americans. The combined fire from the BMP-1, BMP-1 Reece, Shilkas, BRDM2 and the artillery had destroyed the infantry on the hill, a few enemy transports where destroyed too. His Command vehicle rocked back as it fired the main cannon on the ITV vehicle and blew it up, only a second later its cousin was destroyed too. The remaining BMP-2 quickly accquired a new target, the enemies anti-air and decimated it. The Mi-24 Hinds arrived and began firing rockets on the Abrams, destroying one in a blaze of glory. A lone T-72M still tried to surive impacts while attempting to reignite their engine.
The link to the BMP-1 transports went dead. He knew the left flank wasn't doing so well. On the right however, he had sustained no additional losses yet. However, the arrival of Cobras, ITV and Scout vehicles had given them new targets. The anti-air had downed one Cobra when they attempted to bring down his own helicopters. It was satisfying seeing the sleek metallic shape tumble towards the ground and become an inferno. A clear message to the opponent.
The BRDM2 and the Shilkas rush for the objective in an attempt to deny the enemy. The left flank isn't completely lost. The helicopters had managed a Blitz order and dropped off the infantry before resuming their attack run on the Abrams and this time killing both, much to the happiness of the lone lucky tank crew still trying to get it up and running. The infantry on the ground engaged the enemy using RPGs and portable rocket launchers. Destroying two ITV lurking in the back. The BMP-2 made short work of the two vehicles attempting to bullrush them. Kommendant Baron scanned the frequences and got only a ping from friendly units wherabouts and that of the Cobras.

He rested back in the chair knowing that the battle had been won. It had gone roughly 11 minutes since engagement started. 11 minutes and he would have many letters to send home to grief struck families. A work he did not look forward too. The American commander had decided to call it quits and all units across the front reported of the withdrawal of the enemy.

He was now finished with his mission here in Amsterdam. He would have to report back to Berlin, High Command before returning to Leipzig and begin the assault on Hannover.

He needed to protect his family, and that of his soldiers.
Their morale depended on it if he would ever win this war.

Warsaw Pact Victory - 4:3

Conclusion / After action report

Not much to say really, I lost the left flank early on and earned him 2 pts.
He wanted to destroy my last T-72M but he either failed to hit, failed FP or I rolled to high for him to destroy me. Each time the unit was called upon for morale check the passed.
That last tank survived way longer than he should've.
Another thing that me and Max have noticed, he doesn't often loss the Abrams due to destroyed, but always bailed.

The reason the ambush unit fled was because of 1 destroyed, 2 bailed and 1 active. Not in good spirit. He rolled and failed. The unit left. This has happend on alot of previous games. So it's not always so much of successfull destruction of his Abrams, they just leave the table. That's 32 pts gone. Quite a hard pill to swallow. Which is why my opponent today had decided to go with a more Mech oriented approach.

Something he liked and will continue playing till Stars and Stripes are released and he gets some more units to play around with :)

Overall, looked like a early win for Max 400 but later changed to a 4:3 victory to me.
All about objectives!
He is a good sport and promised that next time I wouldn't get away so lightly ;)

If you already havn't read my other battle report where you get to follow a 3 part journey for Kommendant Baron and Hauptmann Wilhelm as they are getting back to Leipzig to strike at Hannover, search for my name and check out them or the other battle reports, feedback always welcome. :)

This report took roughly 5-6 hours to finish with tweaking photos and glancing at notes from the game. I really do hope people like this version of more pictures instead and not alot of bulletin.
