There would be no retreat from Frankfurt. But with Many of the Bundeswehr committed elsewhere, it fell to a ragtag group of Leopard 1's supported by an infantry formation to hold the line against a swarm of Soviet tanks and infantry. The densely populated and developed part of town would prove to be a maze of death for oncoming troops.
Minefields were placed along most major roadways, and 5 platoons of tanks were held in deep reserve awaiting clear roads to make the dash in and support the infantry holding the town.
Most of the fighting raged around the one gap in the minefields on the West German Right Flank. A single platoon of marders managed to hold up the entire advance, destroying 4 BMP2 carriers before being destroyed. 3 Leo 2 Tanks were also able to snipe away at their aggressors in the faint light of dawn. evaporating a T72 platoon that had unwisely opened up on the central building from range. Thermal imaging proved decisive in this fight.
By the time dawn rose on the beleagured soviet attackers, nearly 50% of the tanks were gone, and the infantry were caught in a sporadic but effective mortar barrage. A handful of dead vehicles blocked most avenues of advance forcing difficult choices for Soviet drivers.
Several hours after light rose in the east, the Soviets pulled back to await air cover, and additional infantry support. The bottleneck proved too much, and the Germans had succeeded without most of their tank support arriving.
Very nice scenic table, I love it alot!
Congratulations on the win 🙂
Same feedback as the last report, but I’d also add that mixing the photos in with the text seems like a good break up!
