In the end our club member decided to buy another guy's army, US tank company. To teach him how to play I decided we should have a go at the new Hasty Attack with me as the defender. If I couldn't beat a complete new guy, well maybe the mission would still be a tad difficult for the defender, wouldn't it :D ?

The table from the top

I deployed on the southern half. As my opponent had air I started with the Chieftains in ambush, the Swings, the Rapiers and infantry. Rob went for 2 Abrams platoons and infantry near the fast food restaurant.

He immediately dashed his tanks to hide behind the wood to remain out of sight of the Swingfires in the walled crop field. There was no firing. I immediately moved my infantry towards the other side of the table and the Milans entered the church.

In the following turns the Abrams made the most of their speed to rush the Swingfires which were too close to them to fire. They engaged the HQ Chieftains and knocked them out. Meanwhile the newly arrived mortars rushed the table to be ready for a smoke bombardment if needed.
I sprung the ambush and killed 2 Abrams and bailed one thanks to a successful blitz roll, but they hung on. The Swingfires destroyed a mortar and bailed another, and the survivor fled. In the US turn, the survivors were then able to shoot in the flank of one Chieftain and bail the other two, and my platoon fled. This left precisely ONE team of my army that was preventing the Abrams from taking the objective, and was facing 5 tanks :D .

In my turn I failed to get reserves and failed to blitz the Rapiers towards the objective, so my forces were effectively screwed. I did knock out one more Abrams with a Milan, but couldn't get the whole platoon. In his turn, my opponent brought the VADS and Cobras in and proceeded to annihilate my infantry transports screening the grunts. The Abrams manoeuvred to surround the Swingfires but only got one kill and one bailed, and they passed the test; however, the tank that was holding the objective was knocked out and with that the game was over.

Long story short: the defender doesn't win Hasty attack ;) .

    Proniakin,

It counts as an “American win” this is the reason some people and groups have an opposite account to avoid this. But on the flip side it a great report, some the WARSAWPAC have been lacking! One of our players just moved. He was NATO with us to balance out the group, but know is playing WARSAWPAC, one of only two in his regroup of ten!

    I know the Russian proverb
“quantity has a quality unto itself!”

Help the campaign out by policing up the poor reports! That what we’re doing in NATO

    Cheers

    Nato….all the way!

  • Proniakin says:

Does this count as a Nato or Warsaw Pact victory?

Great Job teaching the game to new players. Also nice table layout and I like you Battle report format. To the point. Well done. I do like smaller point games and are fun. I also have had no luck defending in Hasty Attack.

British taking on Americans is always difficult, but good job teaching a new guy the game.
