Soviets deploy to seize important bridge

Deployment:
I have deployed all of my infantry around the objective on both sides of the river. Gepards are hidden in the middle forest. Luchs are then used to spearhead to the center with four Leopard I's. Other Leopards are deployed on the Right with some Marders. Rest of the Marders are on the road behind the bridge.

S3 held 3x T64 in reserves and than spreads along his whole deployment zone with the rest of the army. T64s and Storms are on my left, one BMP Infantry and Shilkas are in the middle and other BMP infantry is on my right.

Soviets advance slowly

First Turn
Neither the air support nor the reserve T64's show up for the Soviets.
Soviet Infantry and center BMP's rush forwards, while the T-64 just advance slowly and the rest holds positions and shoots.
Soviet shooting is not very effective as most of my troops are concealed and gone to ground. T64's and Storms concentrate on Leopard I's in the middle, but fail to hit anything. BMP's in the middle kill just one Marder and BMP's on the right kill one Leopard I.

My turn one is probably key to the battle. My opponent moved his T-64 exactly 14 inches away from my Leopard I's to protect his weak side armor, but he forgot about orders. So my tanks do a Blitz order and then move full 14 getting the side shots and killing two T-64's and bailing another one. His last tank fails his morale and runs away. My other Leopard platoon moves more to the center and destroys one unit of BMP's (with some help from milans). Marders then concentrate on another BMP unit killing two and bailing another one.
I also try to get rid of some Shilkas, as my Tornadoes came on firs attempt. There are just 2 in range, but I am able to kill just one and the other one shoots down one of my Tornadoes. The surviving Tornado ranges in on last T-64 (and Storms) but fails to hit anything. One Storm is killed by Luchs patrols though.

German return fire is devastating for the Soviets
Soviet Missiles fail to kill Leopard tanks

Second Turn
Soviet reserve T-64's still do not arrive but SU-25's show up.
Soviet infantry again moves forward as does the couple of surviving BMP's.
Soviet infantry revenges destroyed T-64's by killing one of my Leopards. BMP's and Shilkas kill two Marders, finishing off one of my Marder platoons. Su-25's position out of range of my Gepards and hit two of my Leopards, but then fail both firepower tests and just bail them (which is another key moment of this game).

My Tornado again shows up.
I try to move my two Leopards and all Gepards towards where T-64's are going to arrive from reserves, but I fail 3 out of 6 2+ cross checks and that pretty much stops my movement there.
My Marders again press forwards and remaining Leopards flank the HQ T-64.
My shooting finishes off the last T-64, Storm and BMP's and I also kill 3 infantry stands on right flank.
All Shilkas are bailed but survive.

Germans mop up remaining Soviet vehicles

Third turn
Soviet reserves finally arrive, as does the Air support.
Soviets finally get some revenge. T-64's from reserve are able to take couple of shots at my bogged Leopards and the Infantry finishes them off. Rest of the infantry and Shilkas kill another two Marders and bail a third one while missiles from SU-25 finally kill one Leopard.

My plane shows up for the third time.
I pass all of my morale checks. My Gepards this time pass all cross checks and reposition to threaten T-64 side armor in next turn. Remaining Leopards also move towards this threat. One of my infantry blitzes to be able to shoot Milans at T-64's and rest of my light vehicles move to shoot at Shilkas and infantry. I am finally able to finish off all Shilkas and I also reduce one infantry to two stands and another to five stands. Milans fail to hit any tanks.

Soviet infantry starts dying

Fourth turn
Soviets are running out of options quickly.
T-64s move to safest possible position and kill one Gepard.
Remaining Soviet infantry tries to kill/bail as many vehicles as possible and assault them, but they fail a lot of hit rolls and bail just one Marder. The remaining three are able to hold their assault and at this point, my opponent concedes the game.

Few remaining Soviet troops withdraw from the field of battle

Nice report, and great table/figures! I’m particularly impressed with the results of the Leo I dash, and will keep that in mind. Congrats on denying the Reds a bridgehead!

  • Jagdpanzer says:

Yes Leo 1 are fragile, but killers! I always use them

  • Jagdpanzer says:

Good report, If you can spare the points, always take 4 Tornados

Nicely done report… Good use of the Leo 1 – I really hate those things!

  • AlohaRover says:

Great first report, others should follow your example

  • Iandaredh says:

Well in most of my games, Leo I’s usually don’t survive, but they are almost always worth it.
If my opponent underestimates them, and leaves them alone, they usually wreak havoc.
If he puts too much effort into getting rid of them, than that often leaves rest of my force out of harms way.

Pretty much the same with Marders, I usually go suicidal with them (but unlike Leo I’s, they can only deal with soft targets).

But almost always, it is the infantry who wins the day.
(and Gepards. In my first game against T64s, 4 Gepards killed 5 T64s)

    Leo1s FTW!
I am surprized they do so well, but drove them to victory myself.
Seeing lovely reports like this, for my next one I will copy You. (Hopefully the win, too)

A good report, and a good win. Well gone, Unteroffizer
