Stalemate at Bremen

Deployment - West Germans attacking from the south.

The damned Reds had jumped into the town just outside Bremen-Hemelingen, a key point of advance through the Bremen region. They had dropped Paratroopers in early that morning, and we had just organised a local counter-attack that afternoon. Resources were stretched thin, but High Command had spared what they could.

We had a Panzergrenadier Company and some Recon Panzers, from Panzeraufklarungs Batallion .

We knew we had to hit hard and fast before Red reinforcements arrived.

We were tasked with throwing them back out again

Intelligence suggests two full Paratroop platoons with air and armour support.

The panzermorsers started off shelling the enemy held troop positions, with the marder troops flanking. Leo 1 started shelling the anti tank teams with main gun rounds. Silencing one anti tank missile position and killing a few squads

Tornados from the local Luftwaffe base were called but were still some time out.

There was light return fire, at the Jaguars but to no effect. We could here Hinds nearby but still not close enough to worry.

On the left flank, the Gepards, Luchs and Marder troops closed to range and fired into an enemy help red factory, causing some casualties. On the right the Luch and Marder did the same, sniping at some visible enemy.

The Leo1's crept forward at used their main guns at infantry in buildings, while the Jaguars shot back at the anti tank missile team that fired at them from a dug in position. They were silenced.

Suddenly from the rear, 5 T-64 arrived, the sly dogs had slipped through and got us from behind. They shot at the Gepards, but in their haste only got 2. A nearby anti tank team bailed out two Leo1. Hinds roared onto the battlefield shooting at the right flank Marders and Luchs, luckily only hitting one. Maybe the tide was turning against us?

The Leo 1's turned around in surprise, using all their speed to try to flank the t-64s or at least turn to face after getting back in. Suddenly we could hear the scream of engines overhead, what could this be now!? It was the Tornados, they had arrived in the nick of time, dodging small ground to air Strelas, they came in almost suicidally close, to drop their cluster munitions on the flanking t-64's. A huge explosion and secondaries could be seen. From the dust came a single T-64.

The 2 remaining Gepards flanked the lone T-64, and brought sustained fire into the tank, its ammo was hit and it exploded, the turrent flying into the air.

We got an urgent radio call from High Command. The Reds had broken through into Frankfurt, and all units were to gather to counterattack. Even though we had them here, it suddenly didn't matter any more.

With that we pulled out and headed south, this town would be lost for a time, but we would be back!!

## We had to call time it was getting late (12pm), and was going to take a lot longer. We called it a draw 2-1 to West Germany ##

Tornados are awesome - Provided they can get through the Ack Ack

We timed out, and chose a draw,

A draw is far better than a loss 🙂 Not a bad report, imter-mingling the pictures with the text might help!

  • Jagdpanzer says:

Thank you Michael, yeah we used the new ones. But started late, and setting up, long turns etc. But played another battle on Sunday. Was quicker

Good battle Jadgpanzer! My games tends to run a long time as well, did you play with the new victory conditions ? They do make draws more unlikely, mostly because they open for some sudden losses when an objective would fall quicker than under the previous victory conditons.
Nice map and write up though 🙂

Yes PEIPER, You need a lot to get them they being useful, but maybe use fill ins first to see how they run. I have heard later in the year PSC is making plastic Leo 1

  • Jagdpanzer says:

Thanks guy, yes I initially thought Tornados were crap, such short range, but if they can make it through, very good and very cheap!

Well fought! A very different and far more mobile beast than I am used to running personally. May have to seriously invest in those Leo 1s after all..
