Today I had a quick battle with my friend Sean - 50 pts, Quick Battle - Recon in Force.
This is a really interesting mission, take a look, but basically as soon as you control the centre objective and one other, or 3 other objectives, you win. So fast movement early on can win in this one.
This was again a Panzertruppen Leopard 1 List vs a Soviet Motorised Infantry list
So there are 5 objectives, the major objective in the middle and 4 other objectives, 2 each placed by each player.
West German turn 1 - a Luchs Zug and two Leopard 1 Zugs dashed to the right and got behind the forest to claim the far right objective. The Jaguars got set up on the hills, the Marders moved forwards to claim the closest objective. On the left the other Leo 1 ZUG and the Gepards moved up slightly behind the hill, ready to contest the opposite left objective. One Luchs ZUG dashed forwards to claim the centre objective. No shots fired.
The Soviets all moved forwards as well, the T-64s moved up to get close to the centre and try to contest the centre objective later. The infantry dismouned and moved forwards into the fields, the other infantry platoon moved forward to the centre objective. The BMPs with the HQ moved behind the hill, and the other BMP platoon moved to get cover from the Leopard 1's behind the farm house. The Hinds stayed in loiter due to the heavy West German AA umbrella. No shooting.
So now we were all in position, we fired!
The Leopard 1 Zug on the left blitzed and then moved forward into the fields in front, using their stabilisers. One had to dash to make it into cover. They fired at the BMPs behind the Hill but the rapid movement made them miss. But crucially they claimed the far left objective. The Jaguars shot and killed a BMP on the right, and the Marder infantry dismounted and got forward to help defend the centre objective.
The Both Luchs units sat pretty and hoped people would ignore them, but contested or claimed the objectives. One Leopard 1 Zug moved forwards in the woods, passing their cross checks, and shot at the T-64s. They managed to bail 1. The other Leo 1 Zug went wide on the right and shot some BMPs, killing one and bailing one. Actually at this point I had won, as I claimed the centre objective and one other, from the start of the turn. But I got Sean to retroactively move his T-64s forward a bit so they would contest the centre. But he was now in trouble as I now contest the centre, and control 3 others.
So the bailed T-64 remounted, and shot 2 shot at the leopards in the woods in front, killing one. The other two shot at the Zug in the field, killing one as well. The other infantry moved up, one to contest the centre objective and another to move in the fields and shoot the Leo 1 ZUG in the woods. The infantry platoon at the centre was just out of range to assault, so could only contest it, and as they dashed they could not shoot. The others in the field tried to shoot at the Leo 1s in the wood, but all missed or the armour held.
The BMPs behind the farm house killed one Jaguar with their Sager missiles. The other ones behind the hill all missed.
At this point I reminded Sean if he did not do anything I had won (in my next turn) as I had 3 other objectives. So he brought on his Hinds to try to kill the far left Leo 1 ZUg of only 2 tanks. But he would have to run the gauntlet of AA from the Gepards and Rolands. The Gepards brought down 2 Hinds with 7 Hits, the Rolands also killed one. The Leopards even fired their AA MGs, but to no effect.
So it came down to one roll, could the Hind kill the Leo 2 claiming the objective?? ahhh nope, it missed.
So that was it. Turn 3 win to the West Germans.
Great use of that speed to get there, a much needed win for us mate. Good job.
Well done for the win. Keep it up. Still a couple days to get that last win in.
Fortune favors the bold! Congrats on the win for our side, Jagdpanzer! Very nice report.
Nice report! The outcome is not… anyway … we will hold Leipzig
it only because we cant get a larger 100 point game done in the time we have during a week night. Usually with setting up and mucking about it takes most of a day for a larger game, but we muck about, have a drink etc.
Well fought! You guys play smaller point games than we do here
yes this scenario is tough for the second player also rewards fast aggressive movement
Great fields on firer on this board
Yeah, this is a tough scenario for the Pact player.
Yep, same thing happened to me when I ran this mission. Had a blast, but uphill battle for the second player. Nice AAR and the videos where a nice touch.
Nice, similar to my own experience with this scenario. There is a huge advantage for the player who goes first.
And if the second player does not rush forward on turn 1, it is over quickly.
Anyways congrats for the win.
