Firestorm: Red Thunder

The Team Yankee Global Campaign

Streets Of Hanover

50 POINTS
Warsaw Pact
Jonathan @ Battlefront
VS British
Lucy

This was a great game as I got to introduce my wife to the joy of WW3 gaming using some of my Iron Maiden British against my newly painted Soviets. To make her first game not too daunting (she's more a D&D player than a wargamer) she took control of a small Mechanised Company comprising HQ and 3 FV432 Platoons while I had a T-72 Battalion made up of HQ and 2 T-72 companies of 3 tanks each. Total points = 30.

This is one of the great things about Team Yankee - you don't need hundreds of points or models, an exciting game can be had with a handful of models a side.

We played an exciting game where the Soviets had to try cross a central bridge while the British had to hold it for 3 turns, planting demo charges. If the Soviets got across - they won.

Lucy quickly picked up the skill of positioning her troops for maximum carnage, managing to take out several T-72s with side shots. She held on for a couple of turns and I was sure I was doomed to failure, but the tide turned in my favour and with great cries of "победа!" (victory!) - the tanks rolled over the bridge.

We're already adding more models to each side - Hail batteries, I'm looking at you! - and planning a continuination of this story over a few more games.

My wife played wargames with me twice. Then retired on her laurels, having won both games, leaving me trying to figure out what had just happened. 45 years ago.

Always great seeing new players and encouragement. Would have liked a bit more details and pictures though 😀

Grats on the win, glad you got someone else into it

  • Don Lunardi says:

If you managed to pull a win over your significant other, she still wants to play, and she isn’t planning to extract revenge in some other fashion, I’d say that’s a 6-1 victory by any measure!

    Yay Lucy!

    Gentlemen,

Don’t make the mistake of getting your wife to play! One of my friends made comments about women and playing the game, Dummy! She has now put a beating on him I mean 6 to 1 and 5 to 2 victories against him four or five times! She has done the same to a few others also, don’t believe she can play the game!

It now a running joke that you don’t mess with “the Chief”, “Lad Lucky” and “Mary Queen of Scots”

It’s like anything with wives, once they figure it out, they’re in control!

Just the view from my foxhole!

    Cheers

Johnathan, what happened to “Let the Wookie win”?
Do you fancy a game against my Brits at some point? Didn’t realise that you played TY. Happy to host at my flat, come to yours or play at BFHQ in Beeston

Maybe I can get my wife into wargaming… looks over at her on her laptop… ummm… probably not… 😀

  • Jonathan @ Battlefront says:

She really enjoyed it – which I was honestly surprised about, as she’s never really shown an interest before. AND she’s already planning what to add to the force for the next game. We’re looking at playing tonight, with the British defending the village itself.

Not a bad report, boss. How did she like the game?
