Mission: Free for All. Points: 50

We had five players show up at Gamers Haven today for our campaign. As the host of the campaign, I was the odd man out. The games ended early enough, and Jeremy stayed around to allow me to get in a quick 50 point game.

NATO
Mech HQ
Mech x3 Dragons x 2
3 M109 w Copperheads
FIST
ITV x 2
2 Cobras

USSR
T64 HQ
3 T-64 x 2
4 BMP
2 Gophers

Turn 1
Jeremy was the Attacker and won the first roll of the dice to go first. He pushed his three tank companies into hiding waiting for me to peak my head out. No Shooting.

As the Defender I should Dig –In and wait for him to come to me? Or do what I typically do as the Defender and Attack. Well, I selected to be aggressive and Attack.

On the Left Flank, with my unloaded M119s, I pushed forward in hope that I can pass by the T-64s and get a lucky break at his AA at the back of the table. My 2 A-1s were hiding behind the treeline. On the Right Flank, Bravo Mech Platoon Loaded in the M119s and XO made a run for it. I forgot my Follow Me Order. No Worries, as my M109s would smoke and hide the knuckle heads driving in the middle of the battlefield. Well…….. Rolling 1 and 2 does not help you when you want to lay smoke. Oh Well. This will be a quick game….

Turn 2
Jeremy moved the T-64 on the left flank behind cover of the buildings and fields. They fired at the ITV in cover and missed. The 2nd Platoon of T-64s moved up heading to the rock formations with happy pickings of the M119s. Next Turn, they will be face to face at my M109’s face to face. The BMPs stayed in placed with an open field of fire of Bravo Company and the CO and tore them apart and picked off my Dragons.

Alpha Company once again moved up toward the AA threat at the back of the board. My two A-1s pulled their necks out and was able to bail on T-64. , The Cobras hovered in behind the trees at the right flank of the board. Delta Company ITVs missed the T-64s. Echo Company’s ITVs did not pass their Cross Check and stood in place. Alpha Company Mech Platoon Blitzed and made a tactical move towards the vulnerable M-109s to assist. Bravo Company failed their Blitz move, but was able to bail a BMP. The FIST calls in the Copper Heads and one T-64 on the left flank Bailed.

Turn 3
On the left flank, the T-64s destroyed one of the A-1s. Bravo Company on the right flanks was destroyed, and the T-64s were face to face with my 109’s and missed. Game Over next round, as they will be on the objective. The remaining A-1 passes his morale and stays on the board.

The A-1 once again rolls and saves as a sole survivor. Alpha Companies M119s move up in range of the AA on the back of the table and the 50 cals open up and destroy one and bails the 2nd. They fail Morale and leave the table. The A-1, 4 iTVs, and Copperheads destroy and Bail out the T-64 on the left Flank. They fail Morale and leave the table. The 2 Cobras pop up from behind the trees and hits and destroys 2 of the 3 T-64s. Failing Morale, the 3rd T-64 leaves the table.

Did this really happen? I am lost for words, and so is everyone else. This was not supposed to happen. The dice gods were with me today, and I have had no luck with Aircraft and or Cobras ever!
Game Over. What an unexpected turn of events.

I would like to thank Jeremy for the staying around after his game to get in a quick game with me for the campaign.

  • Oberst Hunts says:

Looking forward to more battles and killing more Russians.

  • Klute says:

Thanks…. we are trying hard. Looks like we will have some pick up games during week also. Everyone is preparing for next Sunday.

  • CrazyIvan17 says:

Another great report. NATO forces out west are apparently made of sterner stuff than those in other areas.

  • Klute says:

Thanks for the comments everyone. There are more days the dice gods are watching other people. Maybe do to the eclipse they were looking at me for this game, even if they joined late.

Oberst Hunts, I agree maybe we should look and discuss playing smaller point games. The 100 points are fun but we can usually get in one game. If we play smaller we may be able to get in two games. We do have a new player starting next Sunday and will only have about 50 Points.

  • K. Meyer says:

Good reporting and great game! You see it doesn’t have to be great tactics…..there are times when the dice do come to your aid.
Good luck in your next game.

Good looking pictures Klute. Maybe we should have a 50 point Sunday in the future.

  • Klute says:

The 50 Point game was more fun. Quick, easy, and room on the table. I would like to get in a few more lower point games.

  • AlohaRover says:

Argh. Was hoping Jeremy was going to pull it off. I do like the 50pt battles. I am going to ask Bob he he wants to do a 50 next time

  • Klute says:

Thank you. The antennas are from a foxtail dust brush I have in my garage. 🙂

  • LordAerynn says:

Nice pics and report. What did you use for the antennas on the M113s?
