West German Turn 1:
My opponent managed to kill 2 BDRM-2s and bail a third with fire from his Marders. His Gepards killed 2 more, breaking 1 unit of them. A T-55 was lost to fire from Jaguar 1s. The infantry on my left flank destroyed 2 T-55s with milan missile fire. His Leopard 1 HQ tank came out for an opportunity shot on my T-72Ms from down the street, destroying 1 and bailing a second. This move would prove to be his undoing...
East German Turn 2:
A rocket bombardment left 1 Gepard burning and another bailed out. Fire from a BRDM-2 killed a milan team. My hinds managed to kill my opponent's Leopard 1 HQ. It was a couple turns before I realized he had no units from the formation on table and therefore 12 Leopard 1s never joined the battle.
West German Turn 2:
My opponent bailed a BRDM-2, T-72M, and Spandrel. His Jaguar 1s destroyed a T-72M and his Gepards destroyed 1 of my hinds.
East German Turn 3:
T-72Ms arrived from reserve, blitzing onto the table and destroying a Gepard. Rocket fire bailed out another Gepard. 2 Jaguar 1s were destroyed by fire from T-55s and Spandrels.
West German Turn 3:
My opponent's milan missile team destroyed a T-72M. His Gepards shot down another of my Hinds. His Marders bailed out 2 Spandrels before the remaining Jaguar 1 destroyed 1 of them.
East German Turn 4:
T-72Ms arrived from reserve, blitzing onto the table and killing a milan missile team hiding in a building. My BDRM-2s managed to kill the other milan missile team on the left flank.
West German Turn 4:
The remaining Jaguar 1 bailed my last T-72M in the middle, breaking the unit. His HQ Marder and infantry bailed the remaining BDRM-2s, breaking the unit. Marder fire destroyed a Spandrel on the left flank, and 2 rocket launchers in the center.
East German Turn 5:
2 units of T-55s arrived from reserve. My T-55 formation HQ tanks bailed both Marders that attacked my rockets, before the T-72M HQ tank destroyed 1 of them. Unfortunately, in a daring attempt to take out the last Jaguar 1, I lost both of my remaining Hinds to fire from the Gepards.
West German Turn 5:
It was here that I realized that I had taken out my opponent's Leopard 1 formation a few turns ago. With my opponent having to leave soon, we decided to have the T-55s fight it out with the infantry and the Jaguar 1 to determine the outcome of the game.
East German Turn 6:
T-55s destroyed the Jaguar 1 and assaulted the infantry, losing a tank to defensive fire. My opponent was forced to retreat.
We Germans are always so close to victory! Good fight.
Congratulations for the win mate 🙂
A decent report, good job!
Getting formations broken early is a risk, and it will influence what you put on the table. I’ve seen West Germans fall apart when a company commander dies and a couple units end up on bad spirits while the bulk of the formation is off table. I’m not sure the V.4 rule is better as the canny player will leave a small HQ element and a cheap platoon off table until the bitter end.
I would love these fields of firer! Don’t understand why NATO loses so much, math just does work out!
Congratulations on the win. Looks like a fun game – I’m chomping at the bit to get my DDR force in action – hopefully this week!
I hope so. It doesn’t work well with lists that contain multiple formations with fewer than 10 combined units.
That rule about the formation not entering the battle as they are off the table and the formation breaking will probably be amended when Team Yankee is re-written next month.
