In accordance with Oberkommando directives, Hauptmann Mutterliebhaber led his small Kampfgruppe towards the front in support of the main counteroffensive toward Leipzig. The afternoon sun beat down hard on Mutterliebhaber in his command Yankeewagen, drawing beads of sweat across his face as he scanned his surroundings for signs of the enemy. He did not have to wait long.
*Dust Up - 80 points - Daylight*
*I'm fielding a M113 Panzergrenadier formation against an Afghantsy formation*
In the distance Mutterliebhaber spied what looked like a blocking force of Soviet infantry, barely airflited into place in time. The distant sound of rotors told him that their aircraft were not far in the distance. With the bulk of his column's strength with him, Mutterliebhaber knew that now was the time to strike. A quick wave of his hand and the offensive began
The Hauptmann was well aware of the saying that if you want something done right, you had to do it yourself. Holding on to his rifle strap, Mutterliebhaber quickly hauled himself out of the hatch of his personal transport. He had to yell to be heard over the sound of three 1500hp Maybach engines but regardless, a full platoon followed him as they raced up the road behind the cover of the Leopard MBTs. Behind them, the supporting SPAA battery fanned out in overwatch positions
The West German movement does not go unnoticed. A Soviet airborne infantry company rushes forward to receive the impending attack while another pops up out of hiding amongst the buildings in the distance. However, the Soviet ranks are evidently plagued by confusion or indecision as the second infantry unit does not advance from their positions. At the same time, two Hind squadrons swoop in and launch a head on attack upon the Gepard battery. From afar, a Spigot battery is able to draw a bead upon the Gepards, quickly sending 2 up in flames. The Hinds dive into the wall of tracers spat out by the remaining Gepards. Only 3 go down, but their surprisingly thick hide is compensated for by their abysmal aim as the remaining Hinds only managed to knock out 1 more Gepard.
The tall grass could not completely hide the advancing Soviet infantry from Mutterliebhaber's eyes.
"Give it to them!" He yelled, gesturing at the paratroopers. The Leopard 2 platoon drove forward with machine guns raining down lead on the Soviets, while the Panzergrenadiers ran forward and followed suit. With no armour to engage the Milan teams trained their sights on the Hinds. Noe of them were able to get a solid lock on the attack choppers and only succeeded in filling the sky with spiraling exhaust trails. On the ground however, many Ivans were quickly recruited into the daisy pushing brigades.
Gunning their engines, the Leopards plunged into CQB with the Afghantsy before them. Their Chobham armour proved to be impenetrable against RPG fire. The sight of their comrades ground to a pulp beneath the treads of seemingly invulnerable MBTs proves to be too much, and they fall back after being reduced to a tiny fraction of their starting strength.
*Apologies for forgetting to take photos of this turn, especially because of the decisive assault here*
The Soviet ranks are thrown into crisis as the Leopard 2s run amok in their midst unchallenged. A Frogfoot flight answers their distress call. One Hind squadron engages the Gepards in an attempt to suppress the remaining AA elements while the depleted Hind squadron and the Frogfoots line up on the Leopards. Another trio of Hinds go down but their sacrifice only results in a single Leopard down. The Afghantsy are forced to fall back in disarray, ceding the field to Kampfgruppe Mutterliebhaber
Not a bad report, and West German most DEFINITELY best German.
