Firestorm: Red Thunder

MISSION: REARGUARD

German Kampfgruppe attempts to seize valuable ground as Soviets withdraw for a refit. The first few turns were absolute carnage as so many vehicles were "serviced". German panzer grenadiers were able to hit the ground and began sending several Milan missiles down range to loosen the Red grip on the objective. Several attempts were made to raise the Luftwaffe but early on they were still too far out, as was the Red Air Force. Soviet scouts made extensive use of tree lines and Hind gunships attempted a flanking maneuver whilst dodging Gepard assets on the ground. Soviet shells hit home hard costing much of the Kampfgruppen's lives but blood is repaid in blood! Luckily, when the Soviet fast movers finally do show up they find the mayhem difficult to navigate and fail to destroy any German panzers. Cornered, the second echelon of Leopards under Feldwebel Kretschmann holds out on the one flank and attempts to make it for the objective the Spahtruppe has captured.

The Kampfgruppe will sadly be in need of a new CO.

A very hard fought game that could have went either way as the struggle for dominance played out, against a savvy commander in control of several hundred tonnes of Russian steel. Looking forward to our next campaign game!
