This was Frym3n's third battle with his new West Germans. Since he only has his basic set we decided to go for a quick mission with only MBT (Main Battle Tanks)

We played three quick missions in a row, Annihilation, Gauntlet and Recon in Force. All of them offer nice twists.
Since Frym3n is new to the Campaign we decided to fight at different locations.

For this battle we were joined by Gandri and Einar. Gandri joined with Frym3n and Einar with me.

Frym3n's team were the attacker and split their forces in two, ignoring the objectives.
Red Alert's team was more concentrated and moved in for the objectives.

The Leo II excels at long range duels. High ROF, very powerful gun and harder to hit make it a formidable tank for the Warsaw Pact forces+++
It was here the Warsaw Pact commander made a major blunder.
He was tempted by targets of opportunity.
Yet the combined fire of ten T-72 only managed to destroy one Leo II.
The poor hit ratio was mostly to blame but the thick armour of the Leo II's did save two of them.

Still in a strong position the Soviet tanks were lucky that they didn't fare worse in the return fire, losing only three tanks.

Then the West Germans did something unexpected and they used their next move to reposition two Leo's toward the centre. The one in the woods took out two T-72's.

It then dawned on the Soviet Commander. If he had focused on the Mission he could capture the objectives and probably win.
It was now or never, but the T-72's were bleeding tanks fast.

Then the West Germans won the duel, using their advanced skill, mobility and rate of fire to effect.

I lost this battle.
If I had focused on the objectives I should have won.
But live and learn. Well me at least. For my army it was an expensive lesson, 12x T-72 and only two Leo II's in return.

(And a lesson, since we also forgot that the Germans had no Units in good spirits for half the game and should have been rolling for Formation morale all that time)

I think Recon in Force is one of the best Quick Missions and they do add a nice twist to our games.
So we lost the game. But not really.
We all had fun. And that is the best result!

Enjoy the quick missions comrade. I enjoy both the recon in force and annihilation.
You should step over to the dark side, Tovarische and play T72M for one of these quick mission engagements. A T72M battalion looks much the same…except larger.

80% success rate is IMHO acceptable. 🙂
These pure MBT – Quick battles are a special challenge. And one turn of bad luck can be devastating.
In any case, I will take a exciting and fun battle were I lose over a walkover where I win any day.
Of course winning is fun too, but it should never be all the fun. At least I hope you have fun now for the Warsaw Pact will win the Campaign 🙂

The results are starting to slip, Red Alert. Have they figured out your battle plan, or perhaps the Wessies are now in a better position to push back the Red Horde.
