THE BATTLE

+++ NATO TURN 1

The US forces attacked with the cover of darkness.

Only the BMP-2 Motor rifles, SA-13 and a T-72 Rota were in defence.

The US forces had 2x M113 Mech plts, 3x M1 Abrams, 2x M901 and 2x Cobras attacked.

US attack in the cover of darkness
No damage is done.

+++ SOVIET TURN 1

The BMP-2 move to go for the objectives in the US deployment area. Hopefully to do damage but also to press the US on the defensive.

No damage is done.

BMP-2 attempt to fire at M901 but cover and night make them hard to hit.

+++ NATO TURN 2

The US commander realizes the danger and pulls back his attack and makes a tactical retreat. The Cobras arrive and cause damage against the BMP-2's.

Miss Jökulsdóttir. My daughter was more than willing to roll any or all dice. When she hit with every dice I'd wish my daughter was rolling for me.

+++ SOVIET TURN 2

The Cobras needed to be take out before they could do more damage but in cover and the darkness of night made the Soviet fire ineffective wasting an entire turn of shooting.

+++ NATO TURN 3

The US set up their forces to prepare for the Soviet reinforcements.

And their Cobras made full use of their stationary fire, decimating the BMP-2's

+++ SOVIET TURN 3

Still night and no reinforcements. Again fire against the Cobras was ineffective.

US forces set up to meet the Soviet reinforcements.

+++ NATO TURN 4

Still night, but it was getting brighter.

The Cobras turn their attention to the SA-13 taking out one, but the other remains steadfast.

A platoon of M113 opens fire against the Soviet infantry that had failed to dig in every turn and take out 3 teams.

Cobras turn against the SA-13 and take out one.
M113 armored carriers take out three rifle teams.

+++ SOVIET TURN 4

Still night, but morning is breaking and reinforcements arrive. A company (рота/Rota) of 3x T-72 arrive and move into the Soviet Deployment area. A flight of 4x Hinds arrive and along with 2x BMP-2 and 1x SA-13 all open fire at the Cobras (needing "6's" to hit, cover and night). A Hind shoots down one Cobra and the other flees the field.

A small victory considering the damage done.

The reliable Mi-24 save the day.

+++ NATO TURN 5

***Day breaks

The US commanders, Gandri and his 2iC Frym3n discuss tactics. They move the M163 to tackle the MI-24 bringing one down in flames. The M1 Abrams and M901 engage the newly arrived T-72 but fail to hit.

Gandri and Frym3n plan their next move.

+++ SOVIET TURN 5

The Soviets spring their ambush, but only one tank passes his cross test to enter a forest. The Hinds move to engage M901 on the flank and bail one, but the platoon remains.

The combined fire of 5 T-72's manages to take out one Abrams.

+++ NATO TURN 6

The US hit back hard and take out 2 T-72's but fail to do more damage.

+++ SOVIET TURN 6

The Soviet commander switches focus to the M163 VADS with his T-72 taking out 2 of the AA vehicles.

At the same time the Hinds take out the M901 platoon they had started to engage.

Hinds take out a M901 platoon
T-72's focus on the VADS

+++ NATO TURN 7

This turn sees a platoon of M901 blitz and take out the Soviet Formation Commander but 4x T-72's remain.

+++ SOVIET TURN 7

No is the time for bold action. The three Hinds fly directly against the two remaining VADS. In and in a hail of bullets one Hind is destroyed and one VAD bailed but then they flee!

Other actions are ineffective.

Trusting that their save and the low firepower will see them through the Hinds manage to take out their nemesis!

+++ NATO TURN 8

Having lost their main AA the US brings in all units with AA capabilities but cannot take on the Hinds. The Abrams fire at the T-72 but fail to penetrate their armor.

+++ SOVIET TURN 8

The Hinds move to engage the Abrams while the T-72's take on a M901 Platoon and destroy it.

Again all the US .50 cal machineguns fire at the Hinds and this time they take one down but the remaining one takes out a M1 Abrams. The remaining Abrams flees but the last Hind stays.

+++

At this point we called it a draw. The Soviets still had:

3x T-72's
1x T-72
11x Infantry teams
1x Hind

Against

Two platoons of M109's and almost two full Mech Platoons.

It was getting very late and both combatants lacked a strong attack element and the battle could easily drag on.

DRAW 3 - 3

RED ALERT content with the draw.
The WARPAC forces sustained heavy losses but denied the US a much needed victory.

+++ Berlin is out of danger for now.
