Deployment

Campaign arrow shows the Warsaw Pact advance into Oberpfalz.

The battle was set up as a training exercise between the British and West German forces, simulating a sudden attack from the East. Predicting that such an attack would occur in the Hof corridor, the special No Retreat mission setup was selected.

A rather thin German front faces a line of British tanks in this training exercise.

My Panzerkompanie of Leopard 2 tanks was at an immediate disadvantage due to the combination of deep and delayed reserves. Less than half of my tanks would be present when the attack began (hiding in ambush), half my reconnaissance, and none of my helicopters.

Turn 1

The heavy British tanks rolled forward but were unable to spot any enemies in the darkness. Their own reconnaissance was quick to move up from reserve and begin their dash down the Northern flank, towards the undefended objective.
Suddenly, firing from positions among the apartment buildings, a platoon of Leopard 2 tanks revealed themselves. One Chieftain went up in flames in the opening volley as the Luchs on the other flank retreated back towards their objective.

Turn 2

The fire from the Leopards may have been effective, but they failed to fall back to safety afterwards and the British tanks made them pay dearly for it. Having given away their position, the Leopards were quickly torn apart by fire from multiple platoons of Chieftains.
Having destroyed their primary target, some tanks were even able to turn their guns on the lurking Luchs, destroying the platoon leader's vehicle.
On the Northern flank, the British reconnaissance continued to move toward the objective as their Swingfires appeared behind them from reserve.

Turn 3

The British tanks rolled up onto the Southern objective, taking out the second Luchs in the process.
Luckily, the German's first call for reinforcements was answered by a platoon of three Leopard 2 tanks who fired upon the closest Chieftains in order to slow their advance. One went up in flames while the crew in the other panicked.
Meanwhile, the Gepards moved across the back ranks in the hopes of covering the Northern objective against British reconnaissance.

Turn 4

In the final rounds, the German commander joined his troops in a desperate fire fight, destroying the first Chieftain he saw. The Gepards however were lost to fear and flame and were unable to lend their support in pushing the British reconnaissance from the objective.
Ultimately the town was taken and the remaining German forces were forced to fall back before the might of the British tanks.

I love the Leopard 2 company as a whole in terms of theme, but with so few tanks and platoons on the table it’s an incredibly fragile force. If you hadn’t gotten that first reserve roll then the game would have been much more one-sided.

Phil did, built it from the work models, although there was some confusion as to which side he’d signed up as, haha.
