USSR Attack on Kittentel

17th and 21st Lance “Death or Glory”
The Battlefield British on right

MAJ Churchill wasn’t happy with his present situation. The Welsh cavalry had done their job screen Kittental and destroying the advance recon force, But the Forward security element was way above the fighting weight of the Welsh. The Welsh had been shadowing the Russian all morning long and were preparing for their now advancing with three companies abreast. The BMP Company in the North had dismounted their infantry to clear the wood to the North; The Major prepared a surprise of his own for the Russian here! With help of the Royal Engineers there was on a minefield to the east of the woods on the road to deny or at least delay the Russian of their use. In the Center BMPs lead the way for some tanks and Air Defense vehicles. Along the road in column was a T-72 Tank company! The Far to the south on the other side of a rail line running from east to west were three carnations that the Welsh cavalry were shadowing

His own position wasn’t that bad except for the rail track to his right flank in the south. It was wide open but would require putting a unit with very limited fields of fire. The Charlie battery commander had said this was perfect for his four Abbots. They could use the woods for cover and if the need arose come forward for direct fire. If the Irish could cover with some eyes on the area he would have more than enough time to adjust.

Abbots in the wood line

Lt. O’Rourke and his 9th Platoon of the 3rd Company Irish Guards had set up with one squad in a Factory with the 2nd squad south side across the road and the to the east side of two large water storage tanks. The 3rd squad placed on the other side of the rail tracks, if they were needed they could use the tracks as cover and setup in the “Classic L” fire position to support the rest of the platoon. To the rear of 2nd Squad both of the platoons Milan team set up with a primary field of fire to the East and second to the North. The Section vehicles were located behind the factor and water towers to act as a quick reaction force. Has an insurance to delaying any attempt to overrun the platoon the Royal Engineers had layer down a second mine field across 2nd Squad and the factory.

It said slow down!

Maj Churchill co-located his Command Chieftain with those of 5th Troop Chieftains under CPT Hightower, the squadron 2IC, the platoon Commander and his crew had been lost to a Frog foot two days prior while escorting a rapier section into position. The 5th position was hidden behind the Irish and for an allowed a clear field of fire on the road beyond the mine field and the large open to the North East. A local farm had plowed under his crop to remove any possible use as cover by the enemy.

The North of the Maj Chieftains has deployed the 17th Troop of swing fire vehicles along a road running North to South and around an old church. The field of fire and weapons range allowed covering half the battle field space well past the forests to the North and Factory the south. And some were to the North was the New FOO CPT Nickerson, But it wasn’t where he had been told to go!

17th Troop can cover how much….a lot.

As the Russian advance in the North with the BMPs turned south to avoid the minefield, in the center the tanks came on line as did the tanks to the South.

The Factory…..All is quite!

Just has the Russian were scanning for targets all hell broke loss! It started with a smoke screen across both the T-72 Company’s! Then a Shilka blew up followed by four BMP’s!

Charlie Battery Smokes screened across the Northern T-72 all the way to 1st squads position in the south,
Cheiftains Front Lift!
5th troops and 17th Troops dealt destruction to the BMP Company

In the south, as the smoke cleared the Milan teams went one for two and take out a gopher as a Lynx weapons section attacks the 2nd Company of T-72 from behind! The second Gopher hit one of the Lynx which head home smoking from the tail! The second fired off its missile and took out a T-72 as Churchill took out another from the front!

One for two! Milan’s take out a Gopher! Is that the Commanders tank in the rear?
Lone Lynx’s starts its attack!
Lynx get one and MAJ Churchill another!
1st Company can see 2nd Company tanks burning! Fire at lower right!

The Russian T-72 Company’s advance across the front, But the BMPs hold and fire their missile at 5th troop resulting in 5A blowing up and 5B temporarily out of action! The dismounted infantry advance onto the minefield but would advance no further. The Russian artillery lay smoke to cover the 2nd company across 2nd and 3rd Squads position!

The BMPs get the better of 5th Troop!
this is what the Russian Infantry saw
I guess they can read!
and this is what happened to those that couldn’t
the Russian learn to use smoke!

LT Drake and the 8th troop of Chieftains arrived at the cross road and were able to take out three BMPs and one T-72 before multiple explosions come from their position caused by the concentrated fire of from the T-72 and BMP missiles! In the 5th troop, 5B exploded after the third T-72 round hit the tank! 5c fire move West to support the 17th Troop against the T-72 coming from the north of the factory knowing that the Minefield would slow down the 2nd T-72 company and allow the Milan team at least one more shoot! Charlie Battery rained artillery rounds down on the advancing infantry

8th Troop is gone!
is all of 8th Troop gone? No 8C is the sole survivor!
you rang, we bang!
Infantry pinned down by firer
you want us to cross what! Sorry can’t hear you over the artillery rounds hitting us!
5c readjusts to North West

Between the fires of MAJ Church, and the Milan’s of 9th Platoon the T-72 company was in full retreat! Then MAJ Churchill saw 5c exploded next to him and heard over the company net from the 17th Troop “8C is gone”

HQ supports the right
the single remaining tank of 2nd company
5b is not gone! Both remain 5th Troop tanks engage Russian t-72
both 5c and 8c are gone

MAJ Churchill has only two chieftains and three swing fires to engage the BMPs and 1st Company of T-72 to the North! He saw adjusting his position to the north when a section of Blowpipes arrived and set up to cover want remain of the Squadrons Chieftains and swing fire! CPT Nickerson was adjusting Charlie batteries fire as the infantry start to advance on to the factory from the North.

Churchill adjust to the North!
The Russian infantry moving south
Russian infantry advance south and attack the factory!

MAJ Churchill and 17th troop destroyed all but one T-72 which was last seen heading east! The Russian infantry continue to advance but was hit from the south by the FV 423 MG, the West by the Swing fire MGs and a bombing run by two Harriers! This broken the back of the Infantry who ran towards the east! The last T-72 moving east!

FV423 to the Russian South

Harriers strike from the North!
The Russian remaining infantry surrender!
the last tank heads east

The 9th troop had just arrived and were moving past Churchill’s position when the word went out that there were fast moving come from the South! It was too late for 8b as he exploded from a missile hit to his side!

The last thing 8b heard was fast movers from the south! That is 8b burning next to building!

MAJOR Churchill reported that with his current losses and remaining force, He could not, in all likely hood, hold his present position against a similar force that had just attacked. The battle force commander told him he would be at his location in an hour, out. Over hearing the conversation the Squadron Sergeant Major told him that they had done their best and if it wasn’t good enough for the Commander, well then just screw him.
When the commander arrived he said “John you did a hell of a job! Alpha Squadron took a pounding too! He’s down to four chieftain and 2 squads of Infantry. I’m combined Alpha with Charlie and given that the Alpha commander his senior he will command the combined Squadron.
I have an import job for you; The Corps has just been given the US First Cavalry Division from US III Corps, Its two brigades strong, The Corps Commander wants British Liaison Officer at least to battalion and if possible with forward companies to help coordinate. I know you rather be in command but right now at this moment you can do more for us there than here, Take a senior warrant with you.”
“Sir, Can I take the Squadron Sergeant Major?”
“That would be best since Alpha has theirs”
John, what I’m about to tell you, needs to stay with you, those tanks that retreated east? Never got passed the Welch cavalry. Intelligence is trying to confirm but believe present there is no longer any first line Russian force in East German. The Poles and Czech seem to be setting this one out, I can’t go into more detail about the why.
Intel believes the Russian have shifted the bulk of the 2nd Guards Tank Army and 3 of the 5 Division in the 3rd Shock Army into Hamburg with eyes on the Netherlands. They believe that the 20th Guards Army supported the 8th Guards army attack against CENTAG and this is the reason for their early success. The 1st Guards Tank Army push back US VII Corps then went south toward Stuttgart to Cut off German II Corps and the Russian force that did attack out of the Czech Republic were the 5 division normally assigned to the two Czech Combined Armies and the Central group force.
If Intel can confirm were heading towards East German, To quote John Wayne in “In harms ways” SKY Hock in reserves!

The Russian Commander is recalled!
British Victory 4 to 3

We ride to Death or Glory! I’ll take glory if you don’t mind!

    Aloha Rover,

Mike is trying to catch up with his reports, We lost three of our Russian players for military and personnel reason. We’re down to just two Russian players. As mike finish a report I drop photos into his file for the next report!

Given his limited time we only are working on his “wins” right now, I’m working on the lose reports after I get the NATO photos all dropped.

I believe I’m four in the hole right now.

If you go to the stores and see Armchair Adventurer, you we see all the reports that we have already

    Cheers

    Scott

Is your opponent working on his report?

Also, I might steal the idea to run the scenarios from the backs of the source books for the campaigns. It only makes sense to.

  • Nabeshin says:

Nice picture story going on here, well done! Can’t tell if there is blurriness or pixelation going on with some of these images, I think it’s the site image compression though.

Given all the “blank” reports that followed you should have two! I believe Bayankhan can provide cake if you like.

When did I lose rank! Something at HQ I don’t know about? ☠️
