After the initial hours of the Warsaw Pact advances, several units have suffered substantial losses and need their equipment and manpower replenished. Supporting units for an Eastern German battalion have laagered to recover from the earlier advances while the armored companies are being repaired further behind the lines.
Unfortunately, a previously bypassed American Mechanized Infantry company has found the encampment....
Initial entry on the board finds VADS AAA joining the company, covering them from any Hind or Frogfoot attacks. A M-1 platoon starts firing a dug-in infantry company, killing an RPG team, while a flight of Cobras start firing on the scout platoon if BMP's, killing one of them as well. A mounted Mechanized infantry platoon fires on the ZSU platoon, but to no avail as their Dragon missiles and LAWs go wide.
The battalion responds by moving their attached Hinds to cover the resupply points(objective markers) and the infantry hangs tight, staying dug in, while the scouts fail to provide any meaningful cover.
The Americans bring their heavy artillery into position and their infantry dismount to begin their task of digging out the NVA infantry.
The VADS, finding no nearby aircraft, take up position to suppress the infantry, hoping to catch one or two teams out of their positions. They kill one team, but their success is overshadowed by the Abrams killing a SAM team and a BMP troop carrier. The mounted mech platoon kills a ZSU as does the ITV platoon, further weakening the available WarPac AAA.
The attached 2S1 unit receives the order to withdraw to a more useful location, and the Shilkas enact a brief revenge for their losses, bailing two M113's. The troop carrier BMP's return fie on the ITV platoon, but scores no hits due to the ITV concealment. The Hind crews, seeing an opening, make a break through and shoot down one of the American Cobras.
Another ITV platoon joins the American assaultp, joining the VADS in advancing on the WarPac positions. The dismounted infantry and their supporting M113's render the remaining ZSU's to debris, clearing the sky for the Cobras to only have the hinds to deal with.
The Paladins, now set and ranged in, join the Abrams in firing on the dug-in infantry. But the defenses hold, while two BMP's are destroyed, the infantry company stays dug in.
The dismounted infantry seize one of the resupply points while the Abrams advance and keep infantry company holding the other point pinned in place. The day is essentially won for the Americans!
Photos are now up! Expect the usual last-minute flurry of bat-reps and photos this weekend. If it wasn’t for the last five minutes, sometimes I wonder if I’d ever get anything done.
Good win! nice report!
As the others have said, this write up is actually really good! Would be excellent with pictures.
Pictures would be nice
Tough looking fight – would love to see some photos!
Sounds like a hard fight; any chance of some pics from you or the Capitalists?
Fight on!
