Can someone confirm if these were used in a tank force, would they be part of the main formation or a support option for US formations.

  • GIGeorge says:

Great news thank for the up grades how about some stingers handle missile launcher for the teams we had them in 82-85 in the Artillery and mech platoons.

  • bayankhan says:

The M150 variant of the M113 carried a pintle mount for the TOW launcher, and could IIRC simply deploy the TOW launcher in ground-mount role. It was a ‘first attempt’ to put armored TOWs in the hands of mech infantry units. They originally simply replaced the 106mm RR in jeep in those units, on a basis of two per company. The M901 entered production in ’79 and was in the hands of troops in Europe in small numbers in ’80 and initially it was a 1 for 1 replacement. Then came the AT platoon at battalion (6 then 12 M901). Putting them in the hands of Battalion Scouts wasn’t army-wide, and may only have been in the 3rd ID…we joked in staff school in ’83 about how the Army had 16 active-duty divisions and 17 different division MTOEs.

In 1985 there were still lots of M150s in Europe, but most of them were either War Reserve or in POMCUS sets. They moved out of POMCUS sets as M901s moved in.

  • Oberst Hunts says:

For those units in the 3rd ID in 1983/4 we had pop up TOW launchers in our M113s as well as dismount systems. Our infantry had Dragon mounts in their M113s. In late 1984 we all had Bradleys and had changed our division MTO&E.

Scout platoons had three squads of the listed configuration as well as two jeeps. We never parsed out sections of the platoon though. We always worked as a platoon either in tracks or as helicopter deployed LRRPs. But that was just 2nd Brigade, 3ID.

    @John Pyrtle

Are you thinking about the M150?

  • Tgunner91 says:

WOW! Talk about a quick turn around to a suggestion. Great stuff Phil!

  • John Pyrtle says:

I don’t know about Dragon mounts but there were 200 metric butt tons of 113’s with TOW launchers on them and they were not the 901’s!! Saw them ALL over Germany when I was stationed there from 86-88 with 1AD.

  • Hi Proniakin,

That seems to be a common misconception. They don’t have them in the TOE, and the veterans say they didn’t have them. Some units might have acquired some Dragons for that purpose, but I’m unaware of it.

    Cheers

  • Quicksilver says:

Since I treat my force as a armored cav troop, this will finally round out what I invisioned. Now it makes it a more rounded if a force.

Good to hear, and good hunting!

  • Hawk02 says:

Yes, very good news, i hope that brings our Yankie friends forward ;).
    Regards, Frank.

  • Proniakin says:

I was just reading an article about this unit on TMP. It seems the m113 had a dragon mount.
Note: this from a Soviet player.

Ah good, it seems the Yanks weren’t just talking nonsense and have actually received the promised reinforcements. Now just to wait on the British 2nd Corps to back up the line.

  • Stingray says:

Is this the surprise, that was being talked about for this week? I would love to see the changes of Stripes being included step by step into the campaign 🙂

  • DarkFroggy says:

ohhh, Looks like more things to come as the campaign goes on! 😀

  • netbuster21 says:

This seems to be an addition which is included in Stripes. Nice to have it now, our US player will be very happy.

  • fingolfen says:

Even as the opposing force, I think this is a good addition…

  • ShadowMK says:

    Great news.

Can we also increase the AT on the TOWs to be in line with the British!

  • Jagdpanzer says:

hmm Good news for the yanks

  • General POTUS says:

Very handy – A nice taste of things to come! (Now, where are my Bradleys?)

  • Leadgend says:

While this will likely help the US it doesn’t explain the even worse performance of West Germans in this campaign.

  • Csducks says:

    Official card for this?

    Thank christ

  • Anton Nikolayevich Sokolov says:
