Firestorm: Red Thunder

Situation: The Americans have launched their much anticipated counteroffensive in the south. The Ruhr and it's economically and politically important region are now ripe for our continued liberation of decadent Germany. The Germans and weak American and pathetic British reservists are all that stand between us and victory. The Germans are launching limited counterattacks with what they have left in a futile attempt to draw reserves away from the weak American push.

Mission: The mission of the 9th tank battalion, 3rd Combined Tank Division is to halt the German counterattack and then continue to push westwards until you come into contact with their main defense line.

The table is set up

Turn 1:
The Germans are moving to contact, 1 German tank platoon dashes to the hill to overwatch, the Jag1s move to the crop field to do the same and the 2nd tank platoon moves tactically until the other platoon is in its overwatch position. Hey who taught Dan about that?

The Russians CO and 1 tank company move through the woods and the other tank company moves out. No contact as of yet.

Turn 2:
The German tank platoon moves into the scrub and trees of the hill and.....don't bog down-cross on a 2+ so yeah. They fire and KIA 2 T-72s. The other platoon moves to the edge of the hill, just out of sight. The Jag1s move into a firing position.

The Russians maneuver their tanks to fire on the Germans under cover of the scrub and trees and miss.....all of them.....miss
The tank company facing the Jag1s also fire and likewise miss.....all 3 miss

Turn 3
The overwatching German tanks move out and ......don't bog down, the 2nd Leo platoon also moves and with the 14 inch movement are able to engage as well-8 shots, 6 hits, means 3 kills and a bail.
The Jag1s also fire-2 hits....damn...1 KIA and a bail.

The Russians pass their morale and 1tank remounts-we fail to even hit the Leos and manage only a bail on one Jag1.

Turn 4
the remaining Jag1 flees...yay 1 unit down, 2 to go. All the Leo2s fire....and Boom goes whats left of 1 tank company.

The remaining tank company flanks the Germans and Durchenko moves his tank into firing position. and......only KIA 1 Leo2 (man those Germans make em good)

Turn 5:
The Leo2 passes it's morale check, and the intact Leo2 platoon faces the flanking 2 T-72s but not for long as they destroy the last of those tanks. And so with no teams left-Durchnko leaves the field and the Germans have an easy victory.

Well-crap. I got way too aggressive and should have let the come to me-I need to buy spandrels or storms when using a table of this size. Well played Dan.....next time Dan, next time.
