Mission: Free For All (Quick Mission 4x4). Points: 60

This was Commanders SonofDorms55 second Team Yankee Game. With his first battle behind him he was ready to take on RED and Push back in Frankfurt. Unfortunately, no RED showed up for the second week at the store. You can feel the fear in the air. We decided to once again try a Blue on Blue game and went with the default Mission Free for All.

Rules of Engagement: Since this was a Blue on Blue game, we would play, and then roll a dice in front of others, to determine who was playing which factor. Since this was his second game, I would only take a draw if I won the game to be fair.

Deployment

We set up a 4 x 4 table this weekend to play the new Quick Missions. We rolled the dice and SonofDrom 55 was the attacker. What’s interesting on the 4x4 Mission layout, you now select one of the four table edges. No longer selecting long table edges. That was an new an interesting twist.

We went back and forth on the deployment, and I was finally able to use the Spearhead Deployment. I was so excited. One Scout Platoon the Left and one to the Right. On a Free for All Mission I am not sure this was the perfect Mission to try them out. But heck I had them, I had to. This allowed me to push up my Mech Units in great cover during deployment.

After I deployed, and stood back, I remember I has playing a Mech Company to defend, I wish I would not have used the Spearhead. Again, I catch myself wanting to be the aggressive defender.

Since this was a Blue on Blue US Game, there will not be much excitement. Let’s see who rolls a one or two for saves…..

Game Play

Playing a US vs US Game is not easy and becomes a game of who will roll a one or two on a save.

SonofDrom55 Attached his CO to his M1 Company and drove straight down the middle of the street. - No Fear in this Commander

SonofDrom 55 M1s Chopped up my M113s very swiftly....
Klutes M1's stayed back hiding behind the building. This is when I wished I never used the Spearhead Move on my Mech Units.
Klutes Copperheads take out one M1. The remainder of the game my Fist failed to pass a cross check and forgot his AAA Card.
SonofDrom55 decided to push back in to the City to get away from the Fist... His ITV drops one of my Cobras, and I of course Fail Morale and they last one fly's away.
Klute Moves Alpha Company Mech on the Left Flank up to push on the two VADS and his Mech Company in the Buildings. I pass my Blitz, but failed to hit the side of the mountain. OUCH They did not last much longer.
Klutes Bravo Company Mech Company was far enough in the wood not to be seen. They were far enough in to fail every blitz attempt, and blur the camera.
Klute drops a perfect Minefield.....
With one heck of a Minefield Bombardment, I have temporally stalled SonofDrom55 Advancement and try to sneak around..
Klute attempts to sneak in two M119s to take out the Fist and one of the Hammerheads. Well attempted. Lets say, I was no longer there next turn.
Klute Kills a VAD. SonofDrom55 Passes Morale and Sole Survivor.
Klutes M1s Roll Up and against M1s. Hits and Saves. Oh Well. LOL
SonofDrom55 Rolls 2 Skill Checks to drvie out of the Minefield. One Passes, the Second Fails, but rolls a six and saves. LOL
We both play lets shot the M1s and see who can bail or kill the other M1 for a while. Then we just drove away.
SonofDrom 55 Moves up his M119s to Challenge my M109s.....
My M109s Passed Their Blitz and Cross Check and an M-1 Came from behind and while a great attempt, they did not make it to far and failed Morale.
Bravo Company Mech, Moves up and Assaults an M1. Wow. SonofDrom 55 rolled a won one for the first time in the game, and I won the assault. He as very careful this game to to keep his CO in COmmand Range of both M-1 Platoons and did a great job to ensure his tanks were in Good Spirits.
SonofDrom 55 Turn to Assault. He was not as lucky as I was, and I was able win the Assault.

Turn 8 - Final Turn

SonofDrom 55 had Infantry in the White building Contesting the Objective, I was Contesting Objective. We figured is would take us another 3 turns of shooting and infantry saves to end this showdown.
Klute had Dug In Infantry in the Woods holding the Objective, and we decided it would take another 3 or four turns to work this out.

DRAW - We called it together as this quick Mission Turned out to be a few hours.

Summary:

SonofDrom55 Dida great job for his second game and is ready to take on RED any day.

I have not been a big fan for Free for All Missions, and playing on a 4 x 4 was no different. Its great to get all your toys on the table, and my city heavy table did not help. We should have just both picked Tank Companies at 50 Points and went at it.

Not one of my best Battle Reports and and wanted to showcase with Photos and Highlights. A Turn by Turn US vs US Battle Reports would have been tough. In a nut shell. Don't roll a 1 on a save. LOL

I thank SonofDrom55 for another game. But really needing a RED Game.

I can see the Scout Rule being a big asset in the game. Note to self, don't jump out front when I want to defend. LOL

Back to the USO SHOW

Hoping to try and get in a game Monday during the holiday. If not I will go to the USO Show.... :-)
