Attacker: Kobiyashi - Red Banner T-72 Tank Battalion (1 formation: 2x Tank platoons; BMP-2 Scouts; Shilka and Gaskin AA; Hinds with Infantry; Frogfoots)
Defender: Leichti - Bundeswehr Marder Panzergrenadier Kompanie (1st formation: 2x Marder platoons; Leo2 platoon; Gepards with Fliegerfausts) supported by Panzeraufklärungskompanie (2nd formation: 2x Leo1 platoons; 2x Luchs; Rolands with Fliegerfausts)
Mission: Dust-up (More Missions .pdf revised) and Battlefront's Red Thunder campaign map and rules
Terrain: Hills, fields and woods with a stream separating one table Quarter (= German deployment area)
Played on Saturday September 2nd, 2017
While the one Luchs platoon available at the beginning scouted advanced positions for the Leo2s the Russians tanks assembled behind a large wood. The German Objective in their own quarter was covered by the Marders, Rolands and Leo1s
From their staging area the T-72s sneaked forward in the cover of a large hill in the table center to the nearest objective in the German quarter held only by the dismounted Panzergrenadiers.
Meanwhile the Leo2s made short work of the BMP2-Scouts in overwatch and afterwards raced in parts (one got stuck in their previous position) on top of the center hill to help the Panzergrenadiers to defend their objective.
But this open hilltop was the undoing of the Leo2s and sporadic covering fire by the Leo1s was not effective enough to stemm the red tank hord from clearing the few Panzergrenadiers from their foxholes.
The following destruction of the infantry on the objective and the Leo2 on the hilltop also caused the remaining Marders to quite the field and redirecting their remaining reserves elsewhere.
Therefore the few Aufklärers in the area could only sacrifice themselfes to allow this retreat of the Grenadiers in good order and to stall the Soviet victory for two additional rounds.
Perhaps the KGB propagandists will post pictures of their victory in their version of the report?
To bad about the loss, if you have the chance, feel free to add Pictures, and as others have said, it doesn’t matter if they arn’t painted. It helps you get more Points and we can visually see how the flow of the battle Went 🙂
Don’t worry about the unpainted minis, I’ve got a few. I even proxy sometimes, but pictures help set the scene overall. Decent write up, by the way.
Thanks for the kind remarks…
But I’m not keen on publishing pictures of my unpainted minis.
And not having a mobile/smart phone for even quick photos doesn’t help either.
But see Stingray’s report for photos on the table and Kobiyashis painted forces under https://firestorm.warconsole.com/battles/stingray-vs-kobiyashi-1504379414
Unfotunately Stingray had to leave for his train before my battle with Kobiyashi began.
good report. some times only a hundred words make for a picture. This one only took 3 Warsaw PACT WINS
Pictures really help!
Looks like an awesome battle – would love to see a photo or two, but thanks for taking the time to include a good write-up!
Fun battle. Make sure your opponent does a report so you can link them
A bad loss in a key position, unlucky. Some pictures of the event would be great.
