Battle for Hill 226

Custom mission: King of the Hill

US Armored vs Soviet Armored

(Bradley are proxies for BMP-2s)

Turn 1 Soviets - the blitz

"This is Sokol-1. Serp take your BMP-2s and secure the hill, we will follow your approach. Captain
Dorobin, it is your job to remain flexible and strike when there is a hole in their maneuvers.

Serp (Sickle) Company drives their BMP-2s to the base of the hill with haste.

Col. Orlovsky joins Gregori Company, and follows the BMP-2s to the base of the hill.

Captain Dorobin in Boris Company plays bait on the right flank to draw the American's from hiding.

Capture and Secure Hill 226
Serp Company makes the first move advancing on the hill.

Turn 1 NATO - counter maneuvers

Bravo-Six HQ, joins Alpha Company and puts the engine to work going to the base of the hill along side

Hotel Company in their M113s

Charlie Company moves behind some houses taking their time to pounce on any Soviet dumb enough to cross their field of fire.

Bravo Company moves up the right flank behind a house covering the flanks, learning from other
Battalions’ mistakes.

American deployment
American advance, and expected Soviet offensive

Turn 2 Soviet - Hilltop 226

Serp Company disembarks their infantry. Captain Romanov leads the infantry company pushes the company to reach their goal and then some. Getting to the ridge the RPG troops take point and with haste.
"All RPGs to the front! Shoot those APCS!"

Serp Company fired their shoulder mounted launchers at the M113s. Hit after hit, the transports became metal coffins.

American APCs, infantry dismount and their ATGM teams are killed in the initial attack.

Boris Company fall back behind Gergori Company.

Turn 2 NATO - Smile for the Flash

Alpha Company hits it in reverse to give themselves some space, lighting up the infantry on the hill with the .50 cals and .30s.

"Get your heads down!" Shouted Romanov as he watch two RPG teams get shredded a few feet from him. "Reload those RPGs, we'll wait for them to reload. We must take out those tanks!"

Bravo Company advances and fires on the move taking two visible BMP-2s, they burst into flames.

Charlie Company takes refuge from a Soviet counter attack by setting up behind a flipped over trailer.

Hotel pours more lead on the Soviet infantry on the hill but not for much greater effect than the Abrams can dish out.

Turn 3 Soviets - For Glory!

"Morskaya Pekhota!! It is do or die now! Lock and load, Comrades!! Attack!" Captain Romanov bellowed. The charge was a site to behold, something out of a western war movie. The RPG teams hurried past the American infantry while the rifle teams in the back opened fire charging down the hill. The American squads were cut down with a stream of lead; they were nothing more than pin cushions for the rage of the Soviets.

Soviet infantry rally and run down the hill

While the hill gave them downward momentum they pressed further with the attack and made a daring if not foolhardy charge into the Abrams tanks. Still reloading, the Abrams tried to cut down whatever infantry they could but they were beginning to panic.

Soviet infantry mops up American rifle squads

While the hill gave them downward momentum they pressed further with the attack and made a daring if not foolhardy charge into the Abrams tanks. Still reloading, the Abrams tried to cut down whatever infantry they could but they were beginning to panic.

"Vasquez open up with that .30!" - "There's too many of them!!"

The Abrams tried to halt the charge but the Soviets didn't have anything less than complete victory on their mind. RPGs few at the Abrams hitting vital parts of the metal beast. It was like David vs Goliah all over again. The riflemen turn their attention to the Abrams and started pelting rounds at the tanks killing however was still turned out in their tank. "Vasquez! Shoot that god damn---" Captain Higgins looked over to find his Loader slumped over on the M240.

Romanov's squad assaults the Abrams Company

Another RPG flew by, Captain Higgins knew this was a fight he couldn't win. The Gunner pulled Vasquez down into the tank. The order was given to button up, they would become a fortress and hold to the last man.

Soviet infantry crawled over the Abrams placing explosives on the tanks hatches to breech the tanks. The Abrams were practically now nothing more than useless hulks wasting in a field but a crew is more important than the tank. Romanov wanted them out of the game, and he would get his revenge. Three Abrams detonated, the crews were killed by the shock. The rest of the Soviets pushed toward the last but the Abrams gunned it backwards, they wouldn't give up so easily.

Serp Company's BMP-2s filled in the gap left open by the infantry and took the hill.

Col. Orlovsky took up flanking positions on the hill to take out the formation of three Abrams successfully knocking them all out without casualties.

Boris Company waited too long before they gave the order to advance

Bravo Company is wiped out

Turn 3 NATO - All in

The Charlie Company jumps at the opportunity to kill some Reds, they spring from their cover and line up firing none stop at the hill and those BMP-2s that were manning it. Four BMP-2s explode as their ammo cooks off.

All that remains of Alpha Company is Captain Higgins HQ Abrams, he put it in full reverse and lights up the infantry with all guns killing two more RPGs.

Americans pop some BMP-2s

Turn 4 Soviets - NO prisoners

"Now, Battalion, it is time to end this battle once and for all. Move in swifty and crush the remaining pockets of resistance. The hill is ours!" said Orlovsky over all channels.

Boris Company advanced across the hill in support of the BMP-2s.

Gregori Company spread themselves out to take out both targets of the enemy.

Serp Company continued to push toward the Abrams but they could no catch it.

All of the T-72s fired their main guns at all of the remaining Abrams putting the battle to rest in one brief moment. Four Abrams brewed up with crew fleeing their tanks and Captain Higgins was eradicated from the battlefield.

A glorious victory for the Soviet Union! Hill secured

Stunning victory by the Soviets

Although the soviets took loses they pressed forward. No unit was destroyed.

It was a fun fight, the king of the hill mission could really go somewhere that forces infantry to take it. Could have some future use.

Glory to the Soviets!

Damn! that looks nice, I wish I dared playing outside, nice wind to blow all the terrain away and birds swooping down stealing shiney stuff 😉
congrats to the win my friend!

  • Nabeshin says:

Seeing a table outside makes me nervous, all I can think about is the inevitable rain that we get daily in the UK. Good job on the report!

  • AlohaRover says:

    Love that youre playing outside

Long time ago and far away my group played on the carpet. Napoleonics and Tractics. Some of our best games involved terrain much like you’re looking at here. You just need some imagination.

  • Vladimir Orlovsky says:

Well I’ve been playing against my girlfriend and she doesn’t really want to get involved in all of this, that’s why I’ve been trying to do both Soviet and NATO sides intermingled. As for the table, I doubt I’ll have time to make something for this Firestorm Campaign. I’ll try and come up with something, thanks for the input!

  • fingolfen says:

You might try some area terrain and linear terrain.

  • M. Nisbet says:

A very interesting table guys. I can’t say it did either of you any favours though.

And also, a very enjoyable report to read, nothing I can really suggest you add to it, aside from linking the report through the US Player’s account.
