After several reports of heavy WARPAC helicopter movements, the nearest Panzergrenadier-Brigade was tasked to find and contain the possible intrusion. The Leopard 1 Kompanie arrived soon after the Air Detachment deployed from their helicopters and started to Dig In, waiting for the other half of the Bataillon.
As a BMP Observer was also identified by the Kompaniekommander, a Soviet Forward Detachment must also be in the area. The attack started immediately, with the Afgantsy having No way to Retreat to. The Tornados of the Luftwaffe poured rain of death onto the smaller company, taking the BMP observer out of the battle. The majority of the german forces started to shoot that unit on their left flank.
Pressing forward, 2 HINDS returned and started to support their cargo. They were quickly shot down by the Gepards.
In the following minutes, the Afgantsy company started to evaporate under the constant pressure of the Panzers. But this came at a steep cost: almost all Leopards got hit by RPGs and Spigot Missiles, those, who bailed, lost their nerves.
Surely, the Luftwaffe will come again for another sweep, but instead every once in a while a pair of Hinds showed up. They were shot down almost immediately, but mostly with the help of guided missiles. Once it took the Kompaniekommander to shoot down a Hind with his AA-MG to save his artillery support.
The Afgantsy waited for their Forward Detachment to arrive, but only a BMP-2 Recon force, the AA Element and some Hail Battery showed up. Those dashed forward to lift the encirclement. And then the Luftwaffe arrived and stayed till the end, preventing the other Afgantsy company to help out their comrades.
The Soviet commander, losing half his bataillon and realizing he was left alone with no more reserves to arrive surrendered.
Good job on the win NATO player 😉
Got the pictures from my pal. As I said, last weeks desert terrain. Next time a proper german countryside.
Also, last two turns we forgot to take pictures.
West Germans are really putting up a fight
I will ask for those pictures.
After which I will have to find time to spray my panzers at least NATO green…
As for the Leo 1, they are papertigers. Great gun, but You don’t throw many saves (don’t even lift the dice). But at 3 points apiece…hello, mr bmpspam.
The Leo2 is TYs Königstiger: cannon, armour and pointswise.
So I am already constructing my next list around the Panzeraufklärung. 7 Leo1s, 3 Leo2s, 4 Luchs’ and 4 Gepards with 4 Fliegerfaust stands. 70 points and 6 units for deployment.
Great Job NATO….. well deserved win
Actually I want to ask about the Leo 1s, think they’re any good against a basic WarPac list? Also, even those desert pictures would be fine to post!
Well fought! But the Pact will return! 😀
Congrats on your win
Picture?
Nice fight. Keep gaming and reporting
yes, we talked these points through. But he loves to play with soviet “amoebae”. So I gues he will use the 4 helo flights, and maybe 2 small companies. But I am sure, he retains one big one.
As to pictures: another pal did take some, but do to time constrains (has to travel 2 hours to get back from project), we didn’t made new gameboard…and used last weeks EW african desert. I am not sure I want to add those pics.
I was a bit of afraid of using Leo1s, but I already posted my list on our club page. Was OK. Next battle its Panzergrenadiers (in Marders) with Leo2s 🙂
They work best organized in mid sized companies.
And of course, you need flights of 4 helos not of 2 two will never achieve anything, sadly. 2 x 4 helos and maybe +2 SU 25 (because of their range) (That is for 80 points).
A good result from the German forces here.
Did you happen to get any images of your battle? With pictures the rating of your report will rise, and help towards the war effort.
Good to see the West Germans fighting hard. But pass on to your partner, the Afghansti work better with small companies so they can maximize Grail and Spigot. For the points he spent on the larger companies, he could have more Grail. Just a thought. Tornados are so devastating that flak cannot be overlooked.
